Communion Season August 6-12

Communion Season

This week (August 12) we will serve the Lord’s Supper, a celebration of Christ’s communion with His people.

Our schedule of services for Communion Season is as follows. We welcome and encourage everyone to attend the services.

  • Wednesday August 8th 7:00pm – Communion Preparatory Service in the church building.
  • Saturday August 11th 7:00 pm – Communion Preparatory Service in the church building
  • Lord’s Day August 12th 10:45 am – Communion Service (No Sabbath School)
  • Lord’s Day August 12th 5:30 pm – Thanksgiving Service

We do not wish to exclude from the Lord’s Table our Christian brothers and sisters from other Bible-believing churches who are visiting us. But we also want to be careful in how we administer the Lord’s Supper. Therefore, we invite people to partake of the Lord’s Supper provided that they are either communicant members in good standing of our congregation, or Christian believers who have met with our session of elders prior to the service.

In 1 Corinthians 5 (cf. Matt 7:6), Paul addressed the subject of the Church guarding the Lord’s Table so that only those who have a credible profession of faith may participate. His point is that if someone claims to be a Christian, but is living in unrepentant sin, he should not be allowed to participate in the Table Fellowship of the Church (i.e. the Lord’s Supper), because his profession of faith is not ‘credible’. Having a credible profession of faith includes being a member in good standing of an evangelical church. This means that being a Christian is neither a merely private matter nor a status that a person determines about himself. It also means that the Church, through its leaders, has the duty to ‘fence’ the Table: Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you” (I Cor 5: 12-13).

Seeking to be faithful to these biblical instructions, the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America asks those who would participate in the Lord’s Supper, seriously to examine themselves. We also ask non-members to meet with the elders of the congregation before they come to the Table.

Although we make provision for non-members to meet with us, we realize that some here today may not have had an opportunity to meet with the elders. If this is your situation, we humbly and respectfully ask that you wait to commune with us until we have had time to meet with you.

Thank you! – The Elders of Quinter Reformed Presbyterian Church
